Southridge Mall, which was built in 1975, is a 1-million square-foot super regional center, located in the southeast quadrant of Des Moines. The "South Side" is currently in a growth phase with the addition of retail businesses, an office park, the expansion of the Des Moines International Airport and new housing.

Southridge Mall expanded and renovated in the fall of 1992. The expansion included the addition of Target, a 5,000 square foot expansion area encompassing space for five new shops and a reconfigured Cafe Court. In May, 1994, JCPenney opened a 64,000 square foot store. Two highlights for Southridge in 1998 were the 37,000 square foot expansion of Sears and the construction of the Southridge 12 cinemas.

Southridge Mall offers 120 mall shops, including four department stores, a grocery store and Advanced Auto Parts, Chi-Chi's,Hy-Vee, Midas, Nevada Bob's, PetCo, Pier I Imports,Southridge Cinemas and Toys R Us on the out parcels.
