The 26-acre Peony Park which was opened in 1919 near 83rd and Cass Streets, closed due to financial problems.
PEONY PARK opened in 1919 as a dance hall and picnic pavilion under the management of Joe Malec, Sr. PEONY PARK featured an amusement park, sand beach swimming pool & the Royal Terrace Ball Room. According to the back of this postcard, the amusement park closed on March 31, 1994 after 75 years of operation in the Malec family. The rides were sold at auction on April 16, 1994. SAD DAY at 81st & Cass (?). This postcard shows the maingate of Peony Park with the coaster visible. The card reads simply "1919 - 1994". Shortly after posting, I received an email from Carl Jennings, President & CEO of Peony Park . . . and he writes that "Peony Park is still in business & enjoying it's 87th year". Bogus card? New park?
